Work experience

Ramesys Travel Services Ltd (formerly John Clarke Computing Ltd), 5 Saturn House, Calleva Park, Aldermaston, Berkshire, RG7 8HA. September 1998 to October 2001. Programmer/Analyst.

I was responsible for the company core network, including the DNS system, mail server, primary routers and dial-up connections. This involved installing, configuring and maintaining a number of servers running Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000, SCO UNIX 3, SCO OpenServer 5 and Red Hat Linux. I was also responsible for configuration of IIS and Apache for web and FTP access. In addition, I worked as a member of a small development team, writing software for the travel sector. Within the company I was responsible for the development of the back-end processor for a major new product, which has involved a custom dial-control language. Specifically I took the lead in writing scripts in the custom language to interface with tour operator viewdata booking systems. I also provided technical support for these scripts.

Grapevine Information Services Ltd, Basingstoke & Deane Civic Offices, Basingstoke. July 1995 to August 1998 (vacations). Technician.

This job involved providing technical support for computer hardware and software, including viewdata based systems, and answering telephone enquiries from members of the public. I was responsible for developing software in a number of languages, including C, Perl and CGI Script, for DOS, Windows 3.1, 95 and NT 4.0 and SCO UNIX. I also maintained an office LAN, a dozen-machine modem-based WAN and an 11,000 page web site for periods when the permanent staff were on holiday. This job gave me experience of working both as part of a team and without supervision, as well as experience of working with legacy systems.

Honeywell Optoelectronics, Calleva Park, Aldermaston, Berkshire. January 1993. Quality Control.

Two weeks work experience organised by myself as a part of the GCSE Integrated Humanities course. The post was in Quality Control. It involved working as part of a four person team, ensuring that incoming components and outgoing products achieved the required standards.
